Full Display Sequence
Each year, the Red Arrows evolve their aerobatic routine. Below is a breakdown of the individual manoeuvres that made up the complete 2024 display.
The first segment of the show features precise, synchronised formation flying. This builds into a more thrilling and energetic second half.
The front formation, known as Enid, comprises Reds 1 through 5, named in tribute to Enid Blyton, the renowned British author of the Famous Five series. The rear formation, called Hanna after one of the team’s pioneering pilots, includes Reds 6 to 9. Within Hanna, Reds 6 and 7 make up the Synchro Pair, famous for their crowd-pleasing opposition manoeuvres. Red 10 serves as the team’s Supervisor, maintaining radio communication with the Team Leader and providing the display commentary.
Types of Display
The Team Leader may select from three display formats: full, rolling, or flat. A full display, which includes looping sequences, requires a cloud base above 5,500 feet to ensure safety. If the cloud base ranges between 2,500 and 5,500 feet, the team performs the rolling display, replacing loops with wing-overs and rolls. When the cloud base drops below 2,500 feet, the flat display is flown, featuring a series of flypasts and steep turns.
